Heavy Equipment Operator

Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for the general and specific tasks associated with safely operating and maintaining the pieces of heavy machinery that they operate.

Heavy Equipment Operators will be trained and certified (or experience equivalent) to safely operate and maintain any pieces of heavy machinery that he or she may be required to operate. Examples include but not limited to:

  • Excavators
  • Crawler Dozers (Bull Blade, 6-way blades, side booms, etc.)
  • Articulated Rock Trucks
  • Vibratory Rollers
  • Pipe Benders
  • Rough Terrain Tele-Handlers

Heavy Equipment operators will be also required to directly operate or assist in the operation of light machinery as needed on construction crew team. Training and certification on such pieces of light equipment will be provided by company as well. Examples of such pieces of light machinery include, but not limited to:

  • Track Star Fusion Machines
  • Vibratory Trench Compactors
  • Tow Behind Compressors
  • Boring Equipment

Responsibilities

  • Be subordinate to and follow the vision and direction of both crew foremen and managers
  • Attend and contribute to the daily tailgate meetings
  • Responsible for adherence to and compliance with DBWS EHS policies and procedures as well as client EHS policies and procedures
  • Maintain any and all machinery assigned to your crew (heavy and light). This includes checking the following DAILY tasks: checking fluids, greasing moving parts, general walk arounds and inspections, fueling.
  • Keep maintenance logs and reports for machines, and report any issues or concerns directly to foreman
  • Serve the professional needs of your crew members
  • Ensure BMP’s along with good stewardship and good will to client, company, and co-workers
  • Stewardship of company property and equipment
  • Demonstrate continuous professional growth and improvement
  • Represent and promulgate company’s core values and philosophies
  • Report any and all injuries to persons immediately to foreman
  • Report any damages to or deficiencies with any plant or equipment you are working with

  • Authority to stop work on any unsafe or potentially unsafe practices or working conditions
  • Authority to act on any other responsibilities listed in this document when appropriate
